ACT for Moral Injury: An Introduction for Psychological Therapists and Counsellors

EVENT DESCRIPTION

"How do we support clients whose pain comes not from what happened to them, but from what they, or someone they trusted, did – or failed to do?"

Moral injury is a growing area of concern for psychological therapists. Once primarily associated with military contexts, it is now recognised across healthcare, emergency services, social care, and beyond. Unlike traditional PTSD conceptualisations, moral injury is not rooted in fear – but in guilt, shame, anger, and betrayal when people act (or are forced to act) against their own deeply held moral beliefs.

This CPD session introduces Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a powerful, flexible approach for working with moral injury. ACT doesn’t ask clients to let go of their moral pain – it helps them carry it differently, so they can live in line with their values again.
