Why couples seek therapy

People usually come to therapy when the ways they’ve tried to fix things stop working.
Common reasons include:

  • Repeated arguments or communication breakdowns

  • Emotional distance or loss of intimacy

  • Betrayal, secrecy, or trust issues

  • Parenting stress or life transitions

  • Work pressure and burnout spilling into the relationship

You don’t have to wait for a crisis to ask for help. Therapy works best when you notice the gap growing and want to bridge it before resentment takes root.

Is online couples therapy right for you?

Online is a good fit if you:

  • have busy schedules or live in different locations

  • prefer the privacy of home

  • can sit together in a quiet, uninterrupted space

  • are motivated to practise between sessions

It’s not ideal when there’s active coercive control, ongoing violence, or you cannot guarantee privacy. In those cases, I’ll discuss safer alternatives and local pathways.

How online sessions work

  1. Assessment & goals (weeks 1–2). We map your patterns and agree what “better” looks like.

  2. Skills & practice. You’ll learn to notice triggers, slow escalation, change unhelpful dynamics, and find ways to move forward together.

  3. Consolidate. Space sessions out as changes stick; decide next steps.

  • Format: 60 minutes on Zoom (secure link provided).

  • Between sessions: brief tasks, practice, and agreed goals, to ensure meaningful change is reinforced outside of the therapy appointment.

  • Outcome focus: We work to your goals, but often this includes less arguments, improved communication, greater intimacy, and rebuilt trust.

What to expect from me?

Straight talking, clear structure, and interventions that fit your values. I draw on approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), using evidence based tools to best fit your specific situation. Rather than getting stuck in repeated arguments, we focus on workability: what actually helps you move towards a more connected, meaningful relationship.

What relationship therapy does

Relationship therapy isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about creating new experiences that replace old defensive patterns with understanding and choice.

Typically, couples learn to:

  • Notice emotional triggers before escalation

  • Communicate without blame or withdrawal

  • Rebuild trust after hurt or betrayal

  • Connect through shared values instead of fear or habit

  • Reduce arguments

  • Increase connection

Over time, small changes in how you respond lead to deeper shifts in how you feel.

FAQs

  • Do you offer marriage counselling online?

  • Yes. Whether you call it marriage counselling, couples counselling, or relationship therapy, we’ll target the same patterns and skills—delivered via secure video.

  • Are online sessions effective?
Yes, online sessions can be as effective as in-person sessions.

  • Can online sessions really help after an affair?

  • Yes—if we can create safety, rebuild transparency, and work a repair process. I’ll outline stages, boundaries, and pace so both partner's have equal space in session.

  • How many sessions will we need?

  • Some couples notice change in 10 sessions; others prefer longer work. We’ll review progress regularly and space sessions as gains hold.

  • What if we decide to separate?

  • Therapy can still be useful. We can focus on respectful separation, co-parenting, and de-escalation so both of you move forward with integrity.

  • Can you see us from different locations?

  • Yes, provided both of you are in the UK during sessions and can join from private spaces.
